Cattle Conference and Tradeshow

Mackenzie Applied Research Association in collaboration with Mackenzie County welcomes everyone at the Cattle Conference and Tradeshow on Monday, January 15, 2024 at La Crete Heritage Centre, La Crete. Producers will have a chance to network with the local as well as external renowned experts who will be sharing information on diverse range of topics including irrigation for feed, grazing leases and predator control, calving, vaccinations, feed and nutrition and winter grazing and manure. Information will also be provided on the available government funding opportunities related to Pasture management, cropland conversion, shelterbelts and rotational grazing. Join us and have the opportunity to network with experts from local industry representatives and successful livestock producers. Be a part of the producer panel discussion on challenges and success stories of local producers and share your stories as well. This event is free to attend and lunch will be provided. Do you want to graze differently? Have a plan that needs some tweaking? Want to practice rotational or mob grazing but don’t know where to start? Come learn from someone who’s been doing it successfully. Graeme Finn, of Southern Cross Livestock near Madden, AB, successfully grazes year round. He grazes high legume pastures and annual crops, and utilizes intensive rotational and winter swath grazing strategies. Learn how he manages fencing and water, how biodiversity and soil health can improve your plan, and about some of the tools available to help you.

Bring an air photo of your pastures, or your laptop to access a tool like Google Earth, and develop your own plan. Graeme will be available for advice and suggestions.
